Absurd?

Dear President Bush: You do your fellow citizens scant service simply denouncing Amnesty International's assertions about Guantanamo Bay as "absurd." Which means, "inconsistent with reason or logic or common sense." In the light of Abu Ghraib and other documented abuses and mistakes, pure defensiveness and scorn sounds ridiculous, and does nothing to improve our rapidly deteriorating reputation. The world isn't buying that the abuses at Abu Ghraib were isolated acts entirely conceived and committed by enlisted bad apples and one inattentive general. Neither am I. I hate to say this, but in the context of our policies and actions, simply saying we're a country that promotes freedom around the world sounds, well, applying the above definition, absurd.
