Katrina: our tsunami.
Is there a difference between the pictures of Thailand and Indonesia and America's Gulf Coast? I don't think so. We watched in December and clucked about the bumbling, down-at-the-heel governments of the Third World, fumbling through a cataclysm. We aren't clucking now. I'm thinking ahead to election season, hoping new leaders will appear from some political group, or out of our midst, to replace our war and disorder junta. For now, the best we can do is give to the Red Cross and pray.
