Is this a great country or what?

On the one hand we have the President's Saturday radio address, all about how fine and dandy things are going in Iraq, based upon what his Iraq generals told him during their visit to Washington this week.

On the other hand, we have the reports of what the same generals said in public and in sworn testimony before Congressional committees--that reducing our armed headcount in Iraq would help reduce the insurgency, since our presence as an occupation force is a gigantic irritant to the people of Iraq.

Of course, the Saturday radio address was invented (by Richard Nixon) to be ignored, and Mr. Bush has taken this yawner to high art. Anyway, the Pres is back on his favorite subject--anything but the ruined state of our own Gulf states and our purposely sabotaged bureaucracy.
