Geezer Icons.

I love it when Wilford Brimley says, "Did you know there are still people out there who don't know that Medicare covers your diabetes measurement supplies? Well...if you've got diabetes, and you're on Medicare, your diabetes supplies are covered."

He looks like he's thinking, Who wrote this crap? Wilford is what Antiques Roadshow would call an excellent example. He is the geezer advertising icon. The only sort of advertiser who'd hire him--a Medicare medical supplies mail-order supplier. I guess he got too old for Quaker Oats. Or maybe they decided he was just too grumpy, even for oatmeal. Here in Youth Country, the advertising industry just can't get used to the idea that we'll all get older, or consider that ads might sell us something besides denture glue, The Clapper, and Depends. Even the wrinkle cream commercials use models of questionable age.

Who else is as famous as Wilford as an advertising geezer archetype? There's Lauren Bacall for Tuesday Morning, but on TV they mostly use just her voice. Can you think of any others?
