A PROMOTION -- UNCLE BEN TO CHAIRMAN.

This historic move is reported in no less serious a journal as the New York Times. MasterFoods, makers of Uncle Ben's Rice, has re-characterized their logo character as Chairman of the Board. The Times solemnly reports this marketing innovation in its Media-Advertising section, where the Kool-Aid is rarely so undiluted. This should surprise no one, in an age when even Presidents are more brands than men or women. It isn't the Times' liberalism that worries me today.
